Book Review, When the Moon is Full

When the Moon is Full; Supernatural Stories from the Pennsylvania Mountains

                                                                                                            By Robin Moore

I just finished reading this book When the Moon is Full, Supernatural Stories from the Pennsylvania Mountains. I loved this collection of stories. A couple followed very traditional themes for the spooky or supernatural genre. Hairy Woman is one that although I had never heard this version struck a chord that somewhere in my storyteller’s journey I had come across one similar. These are the kinds of stories that performing storytellers bring to campfires. Of course, the spooky tales are best told in the dim light, the dark forest, the kid’s camp, or by a friend’s bonfire. When the light is dim and flickering the imagination goes places we don’t allow in the brightness of the light.

I am currently working on a collection of Thirteen Spooky Stories. I like to do some companion reading to see if I am hitting the mark with a similar text to my writing. My collection is in pre-publishing edits and I feel it too reflects the storyteller’s craft. Robin Moore published this collection in 1994. I am imagining all the listeners who have heard or read these tales. I highly recommend you prep for October with a good read of this collection and be ready for your next campfire!
